The Role:
The main purpose of the role is to co-ordinate the transport operations of the depot in order to achieve business objectives and the needs of the customer & effectively plan achievable routes based around workload as well as achieving P&L targets.

Key Duties:

  • To ensure all administrative traffic duties are carried out as necessary and to a high level of accuracy and professionalism
  • To cost effectively plan and dispatch routes to achieve contractual delivery times, conducting remedial planning to effectively manage live changes to the plan.
  • To ensure that details of vehicle accidents are escalated to line management
  • To ensure that defected vehicles are recorded on traffic sheets
  • To ensure that the procedure for damaged deliveries is followed where necessary and escalated to the Customer Service team.
  • To achieve weekly and monthly KPIs as set by the business and / or Customer Service Level Agreements, escalating any issues impacting on these to line management and customers directly
  • To use all IT based systems in the effective delivery of their role including ATMS, WIP, Debrief & tracking screens
  • To liaise with line management to ensure the effective use of hire vehicles / sub-contractors minimising the cost impact to the business


  • To ensure that appropriate communication methods are used to provide information to internal customers as required e.g. debrief of drivers, driver issues and planning issues.

Legislative requirements:

  • To ensure compliance with Company Health & Safety requirements highlighting any concerns to line management
  • To ensure that all traffic planning activity is undertaken in line with legislative requirements e.g. RTR etc.

  • To support the management team in the development of other colleagues
  • To identify and highlight to management any potential improvement opportunities
  • To demonstrate the Company Values in the undertaking of their role

Required Skills:

  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work under pressure and react quickly to customer requirements
  • Effective Customer Service Skills
  • Ability to take a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Good IT knowledge (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Required Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of driver hours regulations
  • Good geographical knowledge of the UK
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements

Desirable Knowledge:

  • Financial Understanding
  • Previous experience within a transport / logistics organisation
  • Experience of managing conflicting priorities in a fast moving environment

A CPC qualification would be preferred but is not essential.
