Overall Role

Accommodation is provided, includes all facilities such as shower, bed etc

 

Assist with all aspects of the delivery of the catering service to resident and non-resident groups. This will include hands-on cooking and assisting with day-to-day kitchen management tasks.

This is an active role and will require the job holder to be able to carry out duties associated with kitchen work including manual handling, e.g. carrying saucepans, food items, assisting with food deliveries.

 

Requirements

  • Previous catering experience
  • Relevant catering qualification
  • Level 2 hygiene certificate
  • Own means of transport
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Cooking and delivery of breakfast (earliest usually 7.45 am) and evening meals (latest usually 6.30 pm) for up to 120 residential visitors, and occasional meals for non-residential groups, in accordance with health and hygiene regulations
  • Preparation of home-baked items for packed lunches/refreshments
  • Assisting with the monitoring and recording of all catering functions in accordance with safe catering practices e.g. HACCP, Safer Food Better Business
  • Assisting with the compilation of a varied range of menus to satisfy differing user groups, taking account of special diets and the ‘healthy eating’ agenda using, where practicable, local, organic and fair trade ingredients
  • Laying up tables for breakfasts and dinners and assisting and assisting customers during service Setting out refreshments for staff at weekday mid-morning breaks
  • Clearing, washing up and drying crockery, cutlery and other cooking utensils from the dining room and kitchens
  • Safely operating the dishwasher and other mechanical/electrical equipment (after appropriate training)
  • Receiving deliveries and ensuring they are checked and correctly stored on arrival
  • Preparing sandwich fillings and packed lunch materials
  • Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene throughout the dining room, kitchen, pantry and other storage areas, based on daily and weekly cleaning rotas
  • Assisting with sourcing suppliers and placing orders
  • Ensuring that tea/coffee making areas for visitors are kept clean and stocked
  • Providing lunches for staff on duty
  • Participating in the cleaning, upkeep and decorating of the kitchen and dining area in off-peak times

 

General

  • Complying with all relevant legislation / Operating Codes of Practice (OCoPs) / Health and Safety Handbook and company procedures
  • Taking an active role in the learning location’s evening duty system - this will involve staying on site on some evenings to deal with customer issues and, with the support of a Senior member of staff, respond to emergencies
  • Delivering a high standard of customer service and customer care
  • Ensuring the highest standards of quality are achieved in all duties carried out
  • Working closely with other staff to ensure that appropriate levels of service are maintained during absences and periods of high workload
  • Maintaining professional standards at all times in accordance with company policies
  • Fulfilling your obligations under the company's Behaviour Partnership to ensure a happy, productive working environment
  • Attending staff meetings as well as the company's internal and external training as required, in order to share best practice and improve team and learning location performance, and participating fully in staff development activities (sometimes this may involve travel to other learning locations with the occasional overnight stay)
  • To drive company vehicles you will need to be 21 years or over, have a full valid driving licence, to have been driving for at least two years, and undertake an internal assessment on commencement in the role
  • Undertaking any other duties that may reasonably be required to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the learning location
